Safety & Compliance Manager
W Talent is delighted to be partnering with a well-established waste management and resource recovery organisation operating the UK's largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs).
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety & Compliance Manager to provide site-wide leadership across health, safety, environment, quality, and security (SHEQS) functions. This is a key leadership role responsible for championing best practice and ensuring full compliance across operational facilities and associated satellite sites.
You will play a vital role in maintaining and continuously improving safety systems, safe systems of work, and compliance with relevant ISO standards and regulatory requirements, while also supporting environmental permit obligations.
Key Requirements
- Provide strong safety leadership across the site and associated facilities
- Act as the site champion for Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Security compliance
- Manage and continuously improve site safety management systems and procedures
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation and ISO standards (ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001)
- Lead incident and accident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Monitor, analyse and report on H&S performance, KPIs, and compliance data
- Chair regular Health & Safety meetings and communicate performance across site teams
- Oversee contractor safety performance and compliance during site works and outages
- Lead site audits and act as audit lead for internal and external ISO audits
- Deliver safety initiatives, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement programmes
- Support environmental compliance, including incident investigations and permit obligations
- Liaise with regulators, auditors, and internal stakeholders in a professional manner
- Provide leadership during planned and unplanned plant outages
- Support other sites within the region when required
Experience & Knowledge
- Strong background in health and safety management in a complex operational environment
- Extensive knowledge of waste management processes and safety requirements
- Understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and awareness of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Strong data analysis skills (including Excel and reporting tools)
- Experience managing safety systems and safe systems of work

Qualifications
- Degree in a science-related or relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
- NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent health & safety certification)
Desirable
- Experience in power generation or process industries
- Knowledge of environmental permitting and regulation
- Experience with ISO audits and compliance systems
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Full UK driving licence
Salary
- Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
